Sport has a unique power to inspire change and shape attitudes. This year, at the Hervis Balaton Crossing, Climate Action joined as a professional partner with one clear goal: to make sustainability an integral part of the event experience alongside the excitement of sport.
Our mission is to ensure that sports events are not only about performance and community, but also about taking responsible steps toward a sustainable future. Together with the Hungarian Canoe Federation, we worked to position sport as a credible driver of sustainability efforts.
What did we do at the Hervis Balaton Crossing?
Carbon Footprint Measurement: We measured the event’s carbon footprint based on professional standards — a key step toward identifying opportunities to reduce environmental impact in future editions.
Reaching over 8,000 participants: The power of the event community gave us a platform to engage thousands of people directly with sustainability messages, from waste collection to responsible mobility and shared responsibility.
Conscious Waste Management: We focused on improving waste collection on site and ensured sustainability messages were a key part of our on-site communication.
Community Education: Hundreds of athletes, families, and visitors joined our on-site activities, learning about sustainability through engaging, hands-on experiences.
Why does this matter?
Because we believe that sport can be a true catalyst for societal change. Sustainability becomes genuinely effective when it is consistently and professionally integrated into every element of event management — from carbon footprint measurement to community engagement.
At Climate Action, our goal is to be a trusted professional partner in the world of sports events — supporting and actively shaping sustainability thinking. The Hervis Balaton Crossing is a great example of how sport and sustainability can work together to create real impact.
