5+1 tips for a zero waste lifestyle

#1 Forget your plastic bottle forever
Did you know that 40% of bottled water sold in stores is actually tap water you're paying for? 95% of the area of Hungary, drinking water is high quality, but to be on the safe side, you can get a water filter. Instead of a plastic bottle, get a glass, metal or any other reusable canteen.

#2 Invest in canvas bags
DO you use (or buy) the plastic bags at the cash register? Avoid them! For a few hundred forints you can get some super, canvas bags with unique, beautiful designs! You can use them for almost anything; shopping fruits or vegetables and even hanging out with your friends.
The biggest winners are our planet and your wallet. Both will be grateful for you.

#3 Use your own food carrier for take-away
At first it may seem like a strange thing to ask your food in your own take-away container, but trust me, no one will look at you strangely, in fact.

#4 Buy from local producers
Your ingredients will be fresher, tastier and much more nutrientious. The produce will be preservative free not to mention the pollution from the transport. The biggest advantages of all that you're supporting the local economy, not the multi-billion dollar corporations.

#5 Avoid single-use plastics
Plastic, such as cutlery, straws, plates and cups and bags, litter the oceans by tonns every minute. All these items end up in the bellies of turtles and other wildlife. Get yourself a set of reusable water bottle, cutlery, and a stainless steel straw! With this simple action, you can not only save yourself, but the wildlife and the planet we all live on.

We all know what we should do about recycling but unfortunately we, Hungarians, are weak in this area. Let’s change this attitude until we have the chance. Let’s collect our rubbish separately, let’s recycle! Together, we are all winners.
