A Victory Has a Carbon Footprint Too
Climate Action was proud to participate in the renowned Valley of Arts Festival in Hungary, where our colleagues Melinda Bencze and Márton Mályi delivered a presentation exploring the increasingly important relationship between sport and sustainability.
Their presentation, entitled “Sport and Sustainability – A Victory Has a Carbon Footprint Too”, highlighted that the environmental impact of sport extends far beyond what happens on the field. Travel, energy consumption, venue operations, waste generation, procurement and fan behaviour all contribute to the carbon footprint of sporting organisations and events.
Sport as a Driver of Positive Change
Sport has a unique ability to reach and inspire millions of people. Athletes, clubs, federations and sporting events can therefore play an important role in raising awareness and encouraging more responsible choices.
During the presentation, Márton and Melinda demonstrated how sustainability can become an integral part of sports operations and organisational strategy. Reducing environmental impact is not only a responsibility—it can also strengthen communities, improve operational efficiency and create lasting positive value.
At Climate Action, we believe that sporting success and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand. Every victory has an impact, but through conscious planning, measurable actions and effective collaboration, that impact can become significantly more sustainable.
Climate Action at the Valley of Arts
It was a great honour for Climate Action to bring the topic of sustainable sport to one of Hungary’s most prestigious and internationally recognised cultural festivals.
Our participation also demonstrated that sustainability is a shared challenge that connects sport, culture, business and society. Meaningful change begins when different communities come together, exchange ideas and turn awareness into action.
